About Us

Susie’s Crafts is currently updating her website.  During this time period you will be receiving more post notifications than normal over the next couple of months while we make the necessary changes and improvements.  Please be patient with us during this transition.  We are hoping that these changes will help make our site more user friendly.  We would appreciate any comments that you can use during this process.

Susie’s Crafts first opened its doors in June of 1998; however, this was not the beginning of Susie’s crafting journey. Susie’s love of making handmade items could be seen when she was a child and would be at the farmer’s market at age 10 selling cookies. The first years of Susie’s life were on a farm where her family raised their own animals, grew their own fruits and vegetables and made their own milk, butter, and lard. Even moving into town at the age of 12 did not affect Susie making homemade crafts; by the age of thirteen, Susie was making her own clothes to wear and crafts to sell at her parents workplaces.

When Susie first opened Susie’s Crafts the store’s inventory was more supplies than finished crafts. Two expansions later and with approximately 1,500 square feet of storefront, Susie’s Crafts inventory is now over half handmade crafts. Susie currently has about 30 area crafters who help stock Susie’s Crafts handmade craft inventory, with Susie producing over 50% of the crafts available for sale. Susie has shared her love of all things handmade with her children and grandchildren and currently her daughter and five of her grandchildren are among her crafters.

Susie has participated in many craft shows throughout the state of West Virginia, some of the cities she has had booths in include Jane Lew, Nutter Fort, Morgantown, Charleston, Beckley, and Burlington to name a few. Susie’s crafting focus is on country primitive handmade crafts. For people who do not live locally Susie sells her crafts on the internet, on Etsyand Facebook. Susie has most recently launched a blog, Homemade with Heart , that features handmade craft ideas that is written and maintained by Susie’s daughter.
